We all know technology, remote careers, and family challenges have influenced the social center of the home the Kitchen. Change is to be embraced for the good, and discard the "trendy" as a bad design motive. The principles of a educated and seasoned Kitchen Designer are fundamental in creating your perfect kitchen. "Form, Function, & Fashion!"
Beginning with St. Charles Kitchens of St. Charles Illinois, I learned from the master manufacturer of 20th century Modern Kitchen Cabinetry and how it spoke to how the home lives! It's your lifestyle on total view to family and friends of who you are. The original to brand Form, Function, and Fashion in the 1970s. Not a new philosophy but a tried and true ethos.
Founded in 1930s by Robert MacNeille Sr, his vision transformed American Victorian kitchens into the models skilled designers use to this continuing day. 1984 was my introduction to this Design Philosophy and Purpose of the MacNeills and his visionary team. Mid-century Modern was birthed by the talented men and women at St. Charles Kitchens from the engineering department to market fashion leaders. Laying my design foundation and industry knowledge in this world as a designer I witnessed Ellen Cheevers and Sarah Reeps influence on the Kitchen Industry developed at St. Charles. We all know their brilliance on the kitchen industry and development of Design Integrity we all benefit from. From the White House to celebrity homes, St. Charles Kitchens was demanded!
To use 3 decades of design, installation, and industry knowledge to create for my clients the ultimate in the project they dream of. St. Charles designers knew and coined the brand of Form, Function, and Fashion in every Designer Kitchen they manufactured. From New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, and Milan, their driver was Fashion in every kitchen. Fashion in colors, hues, tones, and surfaces were all studied and incorporated in the manufacturing of St.Charles kitchens. Nothing has changed my motivations of Design.
In the fashion world from hand bags, fragrances, dresses, jewelry, and Parisian Couturiers, command the presence of the Designer to make them the coveted item only the wealthy can attain. This was the essence of my years at St. Charles and the Merchandise Mart. Only one name in High End cabinets was thought of.....St. Charles. Today, DIY and internet influencers pretend to know the elements of bespoke designs, only 36 years and consumers of the best know where For, Function, and Fashion come from, EXPERIENCE.
